What is a soul
Who you truly are
Have you ever had the feeling…
that there is more to you than just your thoughts, your roles, or your life circumstances? Like something deeper is there… quietly watching, experiencing, trying to understand it all?
Not loud.
Not demanding.
Just… present.
That awareness, that quiet sense of “me” beneath everything else, is the beginning of understanding what a soul is.
The Soul, Simplified
At its core, a soul is orb of energy and awareness (Consciousness). It is what you are.
Not your personality.
Not your past.
Not the roles you play or the expectations you carry.
The soul is the awareness behind all of it. The part of you that experiences, observes, learns, and grows.
You can think of it as the part of you that says: “I am here… and I am experiencing this.”
You Are Not Separate
Many people are taught to think of the soul as something they have…
Something that lives inside the body.
Something separate from who they are.
But what if it’s the other way around?
What if you are not a body that has a soul…
but a soul that has a body?
Your body is not flawed.
It is not a mistake.
It is part of your experience.
Your thoughts… your emotions… your physical form…
all of it exists within your awareness.
Not as something that defines you completely,
but as something you are experiencing.
Your body, in this way, can be seen as the soul’s masterpiece.
Not because it is “perfect” by anyone else’s standards…
but because it is uniquely and perfectly yours.
Designed for your experience.
Shaped for your journey.
Capable of feeling, sensing, learning, and expressing in ways nothing else can.
Nothing about you is random.
Nothing about you is inherently flawed.
Even the parts of you that feel difficult…
even the parts you question or struggle with…
are still part of the experience your soul is having.
Even in moments where you feel disconnected, overwhelmed, or unsure…
Your Soul, the part of you that is aware of those feelings
is still present.
Still steady.
Still here.
When you really start to understand this, you start to realize life isn't something that happens to you, it is something that happens through you.
The Human Experience vs. The Soul
Part of why life can feel so confusing…
is because you are experiencing life from two different layers at the same time.
There is the human experience:
-
thoughts
-
emotions
-
conditioning
-
reactions
-
survival patterns
And then there is the soul:
-
awareness
-
presence
-
curiosity
-
growth
-
experience
The human part of you reacts.
The soul part of you observes.
The human asks:
“Why is this happening to me?”
The soul gently wonders:
“What is this showing me?”
Why This Matters
Understanding that you are a soul doesn’t remove your human experience.
It changes how you relate to it. Instead of being completely consumed by every thought, emotion, or situation…
you begin to create a little space.
And in that space… something powerful happens.
You begin to:
-
observe instead of immediately react
-
question instead of assume
-
soften instead of fight yourself
You begin to understand yourself, instead of feeling controlled by everything inside you.
Pause for a Moment
Take a breath.
Let’s try something simple.
-
Gently clear your mind, just for a moment...
-
Then ask yourself: “What is my next thought?”
And just… wait.
Notice what happens.
For a brief moment, there may be silence. A pause. A space before the next thought arrives.
What You Just Experienced
That space…
That quiet moment of awareness before the mind speaks again…
That is you.
Not the thought that comes next.
Not the voice in your head.
But the one who is aware…
the one who is waiting…
the one who is noticing.
Your mind produces thoughts.
But you are the one who can observe them.
And even if that silence only lasted a second;
that second matters.
Because it shows you something important:
You are not your thoughts.
You are the awareness behind them.
A Gentle Question to Sit With
If you are not your thoughts…
who are you?
You do not need to force an answer.
Just let the question open something in you.
A Gentle Integration
You don’t need to fully understand this today.
You don’t need to define it perfectly.
Just begin to notice:
There is a part of you that is aware of your thoughts.
Aware of your emotions.
Aware of your experiences.
That is your soul, part of you that is always steady.
Even when everything else feels like it’s moving.
That is where we begin.
When You're Ready
Now that you’ve met the observer within you… you can continue to the next lesson and answer the question of "Why am I Here" or
you can move to the lesson "The Mind vs You" to understand the voice that often speaks the loudest.
The mind.
